CHARTER CAPTAIN WINS BIG AND GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
Captain Keith Allston, owner of the "Rodbender" Charter Fishing
Service of Solomon's Island, Maryland has had a record-breaking
year! Winner of both the Rod & Reel Pro Am and the Maryland
Saltwater Sportsmen's Association (MSSA) Tournaments in May of 2006,
Keith went on to highlight his expert docking skills as the first
place winner of the Calvert Watermans Association's Boat Docking
Competition for boats 45 feet and above in October. " I'm proud to
represent Solomons Island and our entire fleet of professional
fishermen", said Keith, "I really enjoy what I do, and having the
opportunity to participate in, and then win these major competitions
is amazing" he added.
In addition to his many tournament wins, Captain Keith has partnered
with Marines Helping Marines, a program of the Marine Corps
League. This past July, Keith and his crew donated a day of fishing
for wounded and amputee veterans from the Walter Reed Army Medical
Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital. "We were delighted to have a day
outside on the water. Captain Keith made sure that everyone had a
wonderful day and we caught lots of fish!", said Don Paterson,
Commandant of the Southern Maryland Leathernecks. The group of men
and women, who served with all branches of the military were treated
to a day onboard the Rodbender" as well as a Southern Maryland style fish fry.
In keeping with his winning streak, Keith Allston and his charter
boat the Rodbender just hooked 5th place in the largest rockfish
tournament on the East Coast -- the MID-ATLANTIC ROCKFISH SHOOTOUT in
Virginia Beach, which ran from January 11th through the 13th. With
over 750 anglers entered in this prestigious event, the 5th place win
after such an outstanding year is a grand achievement for Keith and
his seasoned crew. Hauling in the big ones to win this competition
is an awesome rush, Participating in this prestigious event is
exciting Rockfish caught are donated to local food banks and to serve
at the event.
When asked about the status of local fishing in the Chesapeake Bay,
Potomac and Patuxent Rivers, Keith quickly states "I want every
sportfishing enthusiast to know there is fantastic fishing here in
their own back yard that's why I have such great success in these
tournaments, and why my crew and I fish every day."
